Iker Casillas – The Greatest Goalkeeper Ever!
Written by Emjay on August 7, 2020
Football has sadly lost yet another legend of the game. Thankfully it is nothing more than retirement!
The news, this week, that Iker Casillas has retired from football was a sad day for many of his fans not to mention football fans from around the world.
Arguably, the greatest goalkeeper ever to have set foot between the ‘sticks’, he set many records during his illustrious 22 year playing career. Not only was he a phenom in the Champions League, with most clean sheets, most appearances, most consecutive seasons, most penalties saved and goalkeeper with the most titles, in 2000, he became the youngest ever goalkeeper to play in and win a Champions League final (19yrs and 4 days). Among his many (26) career trophies, he has the following in an enviable collection;
5 x La Liga Titles
3 x Champions League Titles
2 x European Championship Titles
2 x Uefa Super Cup Titles
2 x Copa Del Rey Titles
1 x FIFA Club World Cup
1 x World Cup Title (2010) including World Cup Golden Glove Winner
Added to this very impressive list, he also managed 440 clean sheets (he holds the record for the most Champions League clean sheets – 57) in over 1,000 career appearances (881 Club appearances and 168 International appearances).
Enjoy your retirement – Iker Casillas – we look forward to seeing you in a new role, that of grooming the player to break all your records.
