EFC 75 Wrap Up

Written by on November 5, 2018

Building up to EFC75, I was rather skeptical about the the fight card with too many questions about what fans would be treated to, but to many people’s surprise, we witnessed a fantastic mix of fights and some MIND BLOWING KO’s!

The opening 2 fights of the undercard delivered debutantesque performances until a certain Khulekani Hlongwa delivered a KO blow that would quickly set the tone for the rest of the evening. The heavyweight bout between Thabani Mndebela and Nico Yamdjie was a heavyweight spectacle with both athletes fully deserving of their performance bonuses – one cannot help but feel for Nico Yamdjie who is now on a 5-fight losing streak despite having fought some truly amazing fights. And how about that victory for Saxon Delafield, whose return makes for a very interesting and busy lightweight division in 2019.

The Main card opened much like most fight-fans expected with local sensation Faeez Jacobs demolishing TC Khusu in what can only be described as a serious mismatch. And then, as if scripted for a Hollywood blockbuster, Mzwandile Hlongwa (brother of Khulekani Hlongwa) delivered a spectacular spinning back fist to knock his opponent out cold and force a visit to the local hospital. Joe Cummins was as smooth as his nickname but I cant help wondering when we will see Cummins in a real fight!?

The main events delivered more than many have before it with a dominant performance by the new interim bantamweight champion Luthando Biko and a deserved FOTN performance by 2 incredible warriors in their flyweight title fight.

When a tap-master is forced to tap, you know you have been working on your ground game! Add to this the multiple submission attempt escapes and you have the makings of one of the most well-rounded fighters on the EFC roster and deserved undisputed flyweight champion – Nkazimulo Zulu.
